2005 b5.5 w8 passat wagon one of my clients had. I was told only 49 6spd w8 longroofs were brought to America that year. What I wouldn’t give to have this parked by the Miata, insane reliability issues be damned

Does a W8 wagon count as a V8 wagon? :p

I mean, ze Germans pronounce their W’s like V’s anyway, soooooooooo

I’m certainly no expert, but from what I understand it is a V8, with two cylinder banks, as apposed to a true w configuration? And then “something something angle of something” makes it special compared to other V8's..?

Can someone else hit us with a knowledge drop??

It’s basically like a V8 and a VR6 had a baby. 2 banks each set up like a 4 cylinder VR6.

thats impressive. I believe in 2003 there were 300 6 sp Allroads brought over. BiTurbo V6 was the only option, the V8 was an auto only

Huh. Cool! So what are the benefits, just packaging and being unique or....

I think it’s mostly packaging though they are slightly more efficient than an actual V8.

How’d you like it? Did it bankrupt you?

Get this. This guy has had his since it was new! He said it’s been getting harder and harder to find parts and people who know how to work on the w8, but that it’s the most enjoyable car he’s owned (when it’s working).

He’s had it for 12 years too.

Between the allroad, s4 avant and VW... Oh man. That would be a tough choice. Maybe throw the Volvo v70r in the rink for maximum number of fantastic/heartbreaking money pits

I always wanted more power with the Allroad, although I was coming from a WRX so thats would happen with almost any car. I did like the extra ground clearance.

I take offense to your accurate statement.

Good day to you, sir!

I wanted an s60r sooooo bad. Then I bought a Miata. 65,000 miles later—at 320,000 miles total—nothing has broken. I’ve never been stranded. The best 200tw summer tires available are $100 a piece. Lightweight racing wheels? Also around $100. New, bigger radiator for tracking? $120 including shipping, 40 minute swap. The car can be taken apart completely with a couple sockets.

The Volvo would destroy me. But I still lust over it...

I love Miatas but I bought a motorcycle instead. I totally get the price to benefit though. I can’t even touch a used factory 17" wheel for $100. Bigger radiator...$450. A front-end collision would total out the car because the headlights are so expensive. Buuuut, I’m always staring at it and it’s absolutely amazing to drive long distances loaded down with crap. Mine’s an ‘04 so it has the one-year-only front seats that are essentially Lazy Boy Recaros. They redesigned them for 05-07 R’s because people complained they had too much side/hip bolstering.
